Miami and the Florida Keys: Luxury Self Drive Holiday

Itinerary

Day 1-2.Miami.Fly to Miami, before a private transfer to The Standard. Anyone who’s anyone stays at The Standard: a stylish and sexy haunt for celebrities who want to relax by day and enjoy a mellow party scene by night. Do the same, and imbibe that healthy Floridian lifestyle with morning yoga overlooking the bay, paddle-boarding, and bike-rides to the strip. After this you can indulge in one of The Standard’s amazing spa treatments (we particularly like their mud-bath!) and then settle down with a cocktail just in time for sunset.

Day 3-5.ISLAMORADA.Having collected your car in Miami, you’ll drive to Key Largo where Florida’s incredible Overseas Highway begins. Built in 1938, and recently given the status of an ‘All-American Highway’ this road really is mind-blowing to drive, and for much of journey you’ll have nothing but glistening turquoise water as far as the eye can see.Once you reach Islamorada you’ll be checking in to Amara Cay Resort

Day 6-8.Key West. You’ll now drive further south for an hour and 45 minutes to Key West, where you’ll spend three nights at Pier House Resort and Spa.Take a stroll past the clapper-board houses; pass street artists and pop into the quirky shop-front galleries, before joining the yachties at one of the lively Tiki bars for some famous conch chowder. As well as this, you can enjoy yet more amazing diving and snorkelling – including a dive to ‘Christ of the Deep,’ and the eerie underwater gallery created on a US Navy ship-wreck – and of course visit the home of Ernest Hemingway.

Day 9.En route back to Miami, we recommend a stop at the Everglades National Park where you can see wildlife like dolphins, sea turtles, moray eels and stingrays. Depending on what time you arrive, you’ll want to take a stroll past the strip’s ice-cream coloured Art Deco architecture and vintage cars; head to Little Havana for fried plantain maduros and mojitos, or just relax on the beach as the city struts past. You’ll spend your last night at The Standard .

Day 10.Today you'll be driven to the airport for your return flight home

VIP Experience

The Standard.Located on Belle Isle, steps away from the action on South Beach, The Standard Spa, Miami Beach is less a "hotel," and more a spa with guest rooms. Set amidst peaceful tropical gardens, the breezy, soothing rooms feature private terraces, many with outdoor soaking tubs, as well as an indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy playground, complimentary to hotel guests. The Spa encourages the communal rituals of ancient bathing traditions and serves as a hub for sessions by some of the world’s top yogis and treatments by expert practitioners. At The Lido Restaurant & Bayside Grill, Chef Mark Zeitouni offers the perfect warm-weather, sun-kissed Mediterranean-inspired menu. There’s also a juice café, fitness center, clothing boutique, nail salon, and Danish modern bar and lounge.

Amara Cay Resort. This relaxed oceanfront resort is 5.2 miles from Theater of the Sea, an aquatic animal preserve known for its eco-tours and dolphin swim program. The bright, island-themed rooms feature free WiFi, flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers; many have ocean-view balconies. Suites add sitting areas and kitchenettes.A private beach has hammocks and thatch huts, and the outdoor heated pool overlooks the ocean. Continental breakfast is free, and a poolside tiki bar serves fresh seafood and has a kids' menu. An on-site dive shop offers snorkeling gear (fee) and watersports equipment rentals.

Pier House Resort and Spa.Part romance, part adventure, and entirely paradise, Pier House Resort is legendary in the Florida Keys for countless reasons. As the first full-service Key West hotel, the convenient location on the edge of Old Town puts guests steps away from a private beach and all the entertainment that makes the island so famous.
